If you make Shorts, you’re eligible to receive money

This $100 million fund is to help entice people to come to the YouTube Shorts platform. The company said that individual users will be getting anywhere between $100 and $10,000 to make their one-minute videos. Anyone who is making shorts is technically eligible to get a piece of the pie. YouTube has a track record of being really exclusive with its features. There are always subscriber or viewer standards that need to be reached. However, in the case of this Shorts program, you don’t actually need much to be eligible. Don’t get me wrong, if you have a total of two subscribers and ten views, you’re probably not going to be high on the list. Accounts that get more traction on the platform will more likely be considered.

YouTube Shorts creators need to follow the rule to receive some of the $100 million

Even though you don’t really have to jump through any hoops to be eligible, there are some rules that you will need to follow. For starters, you will still need to follow the basic rules for uploading to YouTube. Any videos that violate YouTube’s terms will null your chances of being considered. Along with the rules and guidelines, creators can not just re-upload videos from TikTok or Instagram. This will cause some issues because— let’s be honest— people are going to be re-uploading content. Any videos that have watermarks from other social media sites will not be considered. Since TikTok style videos are mostly targeted at kids, we’re not sure how this affects the COPPA rules. These are the rules that make it harder for people to see and interact with videos that involve kids. It’s hard to know if kids will be able to receive any money.

YouTube has some competition in this space

TikTok has already done something like this for its creators. However, the company offered double the money that YouTube is offering with $200 million. That’s more of an incentive for users to go out and record. In a similar vein, Facebook has ponied up a whopping $1 billion to get people onto Instagram. This is some heavy competition from other social media sites to go out and make content. YouTube will need to give people a real reason to make Shorts along with the $100 million.
