Now, this survey was among about 3,014 people that aged between 16 and 74. So hardly the most scientific survey out there, but then again, most surveys aren’t very scientific. The survey found that 68% found Netflix to be a “must have” service. On that same question, YouTube was 69% and Spotify was 75%. Now YouTube doesn’t matter a whole lot, since there is a free version of YouTube – though I would really recommend getting YouTube Premium. On the flip side, the survey did ask about more than a dozen services, but Netflix was the only video provider to make the top seven “must have” services. That’s still quite the feat for Netflix, and that’s likely due to how big Netflix has been for so long. Not to mention it’s large library of content.
So would you cancel Netflix before Spotify?
It’s not hard to see why many would want to cancel Netflix before they cancel Spotify, since Spotify has never changed its prices. Meanwhile, Netflix changes them about every two years. Not to mention Netflix is now more expensive than Spotify, unless you have the Basic plan – which no one should have. While it’s true, Netflix does have a lot of really great shows that you can binge watch, they also have a lot of those that aren’t great. Meanwhile, you have other competitors out there like Hulu, Disney+ and even HBO MAX that are sometimes cheaper (depends on the HBO MAX and Netflix plans you are comparing), with more shows that are better and people like to watch. Netflix does have a real problem on its hands these days, after reporting that they lost 200,000 subscribers in the previous quarter, and are planning to crack down on password sharing, it’s likely that we’ll see a lot more people leaving Netflix. Unless Netflix does something to change that.
