And while you can really use any TV so long as it has the right hookups, some will work better than others. For instance, you don’t want just any TV. Ideally, you want something with a native 120Hz refresh rate for games, a variable refresh rate feature, HDMI 2.1, a gaming mode, etc. Sony’s new Bravia XR TVs have most or all of those features, plus a few more. Having said that, you’ll be paying a premium for them. As Sony TVs of this magnitude aren’t the most affordable options.

Sony Bravia XR TV models come with PS5-exclusive features

If you’re looking to get the “perfect TV” for PS5, Sony would like to introduce you to a couple new features. The company says these features are PS5-exclusive, and exclusive to the Bravia XR TVs. Starting with Auto HDR Tone Mapping, the PS5 can automatically recognize the model of Sony TV it’s plugged into. From there it selects the best possible HDR setting to enhance detail. You can see a comparison of the feature off and on in the image above. In addition to Auto HDR Tone Mapping, Sony’s Bravia XR TVs also feature Auto Genre Picture Mode. What this basically does is recognize whether you’re playing games or watching movies or TV shows. If you’re playing on PS5, it’ll switch into game mode to help reduce input lag among other things. Sony sways both features will be available via updates by the end of 2021.

Buying a Bravia XR TV scores you free PlayStation Store codes

Aside from these new features, there might be another reason to pick up a Bravia XR TV for your PS5. Sony is giving away free PlayStation Store digital codes to those that purchase one of the compatible models. There are some caveats though. For one, it has to be either the Z9J, A90J, A80J, X95J, or X90J models. It also seems like this is only available to customers in the UK and various countries in Europe. If you live in a supported region, purchasing a compatible TV will net you £100/€100.
