The new monitor was announced as part of AMD’s RDNA 3 GPU event earlier today. As AMD announced its new GPUs would support DisplayPort 2.1. Samsung was one of a handful of vendors named that are expected to release monitors with support for the standard in 2023. Alongside other vendors like LG, Dell, ASUS, and Acer.
The 8K gaming monitor from Samsung will be a world’s first
World’s first is a term that brands love to throw around. But in Samsung’s case it just might have some backing. The upcoming refresh of the Odyssey Neo G9 will be the world’s first ultrawide gaming monitor with 8K resolution and support for DisplayPort 2.1. It’ll also support AMD FreeSync Premium. And judging by the brief glance AMD shows off at its event, the monitor will come in black this time around. Both the original Odyssey Neo G9 and the Odyssey G9 were available in white only. But Samsung appears to be switching things up this time. AMD didn’t share any other information about the monitor during its event. But the company does mention that more details about the “design and specs” will be unveiled at CES in January. That doesn’t necessarily include price. But consider the price of the current Odyssey Neo G9, which launched at $2,500. With the upgrade to 8K, expect this new model to cost more. Even if only slightly. Also worth noting is that the Odyssey Ark launched at $3,500. So, if we had to guess, the price for this upcoming gaming monitor could fall somewhere in between. Though it also wouldn’t be too surprising if it ended up being more expensive than even the Odyssey Ark.
