The Geekbench listing for the Samsung SM-G736B suggests the phone will use Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 778G SoC. While the listing doesn’t explicitly mention the Snapdragon chip, the codename “lahaina” and the CPU specs — four CPU cores operating at 1.80GHz and four others at 2.40GHz — more or less confirm it. That should make the Galaxy Xcover Pro 2 the most powerful rugged smartphone from Samsung yet. The Snapdragon 778G is a premium mid-range chipset based on TSMC’s 6nm process node. It features an integrated Adreno 642L GPU. The chipset powers several popular devices in this segment, including the Samsung Galaxy A52s, Realme GT Master Edition, and the Xiaomi 11 Lite NE 5G. Samsung’s upcoming Galaxy A73 is also expected to run on this Qualcomm processor.
What other specs will this device have?
While the Galaxy Xcover Pro 2 may not match these phones in some other aspects, it will certainly be a massive upgrade over its predecessor — the Galaxy Xcover Pro that launched in January 2020. And that’s not just because of a much more powerful processor (the latter runs on the 10nm Exynos 9611 chipset) but also some other rumored specs. We are expecting the upcoming rugged Samsung smartphone to feature a Super AMOLED display with a high refresh rate. The Geekbench entry has also confirmed 6GB of RAM and Android 12-based software. The phone should get camera upgrades as well. Of course, the standard ruggedness with an IP68 rating for dust and water resistance and MIL-STD-rated durability will be there too.
When will the Galaxy Xcover Pro 2 break cover?
Unfortunately, we don’t have any word regarding the launch of the Galaxy Xcover Pro 2. The phone has just started appearing in leaks and benchmarks, so we should be hearing more about it in the coming weeks. Meanwhile, Samsung is almost ready to release the next batch of its 2022 mid-range smartphones. It has already announced the Galaxy A13, Galaxy A23, Galaxy F23 5G, Galaxy M23, and Galaxy M33.
