The company announced Instagram.com/hacked, a new feature for reporting and attempting to resolve account access problems. The new platform is an all-in-one support page where Instagram will ask whether the issue concerns a hacked account, forgotten password, impersonation, loss of a two-factor authentication method, or a disabled account. Users can choose the issue that applies to them and use the mentioned steps to regain access to their account. Earlier this year, Instagram introduced a feature that allows users who have been locked out of their accounts and are trying to regain access to select two friends who can vouch for their identity and help verify it. This feature has been available for some time and is now available to all users. Your friends will have a time window of 24 hours to respond to the request. If they do, Instagram will let you reset your password.

Instagram is working on ways to keep accounts secure

The company is also working on ways to stop account hacking before it happens. Instagram will now remove the accounts that their automated systems find to be malicious, including ones that impersonate others. In addition, Instagram now testing sending warnings if an account that they suspect is impersonating someone requests to follow a user. In the coming months, Instagram will also send warnings if an account that is impersonating a business sends a user a Direct Message (DM). Overall, these new efforts by Instagram to stop account hacking before it happens are a welcome addition to the platform’s already impressive array of safety and security tools. By helping users identify and protect against potentially dangerous accounts, Instagram is making it easier than ever for users to keep their accounts secure.
