Android Police reports (via 9to5Google) that the new search history function on Translate is currently available for all users. Users will see a prompt saying “Back up your translation history,” with additional options such as “Manage history” and “use Translate without an account” for those unwilling to keep things backed up on the cloud. It’s worth noting that syncing translation history won’t affect the locally stored translation data on the user’s device.
Users can star their favorite translations for easy access from the home screen
The History option within the settings opens up all the user’s previous translation requests in chronological order. There’s also the ability to star any translation for easy access later. These items are accessible via the Star icon on the top left of the app’s home screen. Backing up Google Translate history to the cloud enables users to access their translations on any device. Of course, this will also require users to be signed in to their Google account. “The Translate app syncs your history from your device to the cloud. When you’re signed in, your translations automatically save to the cloud,” Google says on its support page. Tapping your profile icon, followed by “History,” opens the Google Account settings for the app. If you don’t want to view translation history on your new device, you simply have to sign out of your Google account. Furthermore, users can delete all translation history if they want to. Google Translate for Android has seen a handful of new additions recently. The app received a Material You home screen widget late last month. This is a big upgrade from the standard 1×1 home screen shortcut, which had several limitations. The new widget looks better while improving functionality. It also bears some resemblance to the redesigned Google Maps home screen widget.
